The trivalent lanthanide tri(silylamides) chloride complexes [(TMS)2N]3Ln(m-Cl)Li(THF)3 (Ln = Pr (1), Nd (2) and Sm (3); (TMS)2N = (Me3Si)2N) react with equimolar benzenthiol, to give three soluble different Ln/thiolate complexes [{(TMS)2N}2(m-SPh)Pr(m-SPh)Li(THF)2]¥ (4), Li[{(TMS)2N}4(m4-Cl)Nd4(m-SPh)8]・C6H6 (5・C6H6), and [{(TMS)2N}4(m4-Cl)Sm4(m-SPh)4(m3-Cl)4Li(THF)] (6  Compounds 4~6 were found that they initiated the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of є-caprolactone at room temperature to give relatively high molecular weight polymers (Mn > 22000) with narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn = 1.34~1.53) in good yields.
